William Byrd’s Tristitiae et anxietas is an intensely expressive five-voice motet, setting a text adapted from Lamentations to convey sorrow, anguish, and spiritual desolation. Through dense imitation and striking harmonic color, Byrd gives musical voice to grief while maintaining a profound sense of restraint and devotion.

This edition includes both the prima pars and secunda pars (Sed tu, Domine). Either section may be performed independently.
